Dear Fellow Sergeant,

Sergeant Barry has asked me to thank all of you for the support you have provided to him over the past 18 months. As you know, this past Wednesday I published a letter to each of our members explaining the misgivings of those in power who are sitting on the Use Of Force Review Board. As many of you have stated in your emails and messages, this is truly a political witch hunt coming from a Police Commissioner who simply refuses to admit he made a major mistake and now doesn’t know how to resolve it. Sadly, as I stated previously, the Emperor’s minions have now circled the Puzzle Palace and have chosen to compound an already unjust action. Amazingly, a nation heard Commissioner O’Neill’s “We Failed” statement on October 18, 2016 and a Bronx District Attorney used those words in both opening and closing statements. What transpired that night in the 43rd precinct could have been any one of you. Instead it was Sergeant Barry who was convicted prematurely by Commissioner O’Neill.

In our best effort to provide Sergeant Barry with an opportunity to be heard in an unbiased Administrative Trial, we have pursued further legal action and are demanding that Commissioner O’Neill recuse himself from any further disciplinary proceedings involving Sergeant Barry. The belief from many members of this department and residents of this city is that Commissioner O’Neill simply cannot render a fair and unbiased decision and therefore needs to remove himself from the process. We have directed our attorneys to continue to provide Sergeant Barry with the best possible legal defense and we await the Commissioner’s decision.

Please see the attached letter that was delivered to Police Commissioner O’Neill.
