Dear Sergeant,

It is hard to believe another year has come to an end, and 2019 has been quite eventful. Two NYPD officers lost their lives in the performance of their duties and 10 active members took their own lives. With new bail reform and criminal justice initiatives scheduled for 2020, we can only expect more chaos than we just experienced. I cannot reiterate enough the importance of remaining vigilant at all times. Nothing is more paramount than your safety and you getting home to your families at the end of your tour.

Please take the time this holiday season to reflect on the past year, as well as the one ahead, and to recognize all of the positive things in your life. While doing our daunting work it is easy to take our blessings for granted, so it is important that you recognize all that you have to be grateful for.

Also please take a moment to say a prayer for all of our fallen comrades, sick and departed members, and military personnel, many of whom are spending the holidays deployed and far from home.

Don’t ever forget that you are universally recognized as the finest frontline supervisors in the world as you perform your duties with unrivaled excellence.

I wish you all a Merry Christmas and a blessed New Year and thank you once again for the privilege of serving as your President.
