SERGEANTS BENEVOLENT ASSOCIATION

THE TOUGHEST JOB IN THE WORLD!

Dear Fellow Sergeant,

The past year blew by in breathtakingly quick fashion. As frontline supervisors in the greatest city in the world, we bore witness to triumph and tragedy and always performed our challenging duties in exemplary fashion.

We now embark on 2026 with anticipation and ambivalence. The new mayor’s past withering criticism of the NYPD makes it clear that his legislative priorities differ from ours.

Over the years, elected officials have come and gone. Some made public safety and support for law enforcement an important consideration while others focused on agendas that did not align with conventional policing.

Regardless of who was in charge at City Hall, the dedication and commitment of NYPD personnel was never diminished or affected by political leadership.

We have always conducted ourselves with utmost professionalism and adhered to the core ideals of fair and balanced enforcement.

We hope that we can establish a positive working relationship with the new mayor and will not waver in our efforts to do so.

Regardless of political ideologies, there is nothing more important to social order as public safety.

We signed up to do a difficult job without fear or favor, so it is crucial that we remain steadfast in our commitment to the public and to each other.

We are universally regarded as the finest frontline supervisors in the world, so the public deserves nothing less from us.

Thank you for your tremendous work and best wishes for a happy, healthy, safe, and bountiful 2026.

Fraternally,
