Pension Retention Bill #S4262/A5376

Over the past several months, the LBA, SBA, and DEA have repeatedly travelled to Albany to lobby for an equity and retention pension benefit that seeks to retain our most experienced members. We are happy to report that our efforts were successful and that this bill has now become a law which goes into effect immediately.

How the Bill is Calculated

When an active member of the above-mentioned unions completes
25 years of service, he/she will receive a 5% pension enhancement.

When an active member of the above-mentioned unions completes
30 years of service, he/she will receive a 10% pension enhancement.

When an active member of the above-mentioned unions completes
35 years of service, he/she will receive a 15% pension enhancement.

The pension enhancement made at retirement is based on top salary in the highest designation in their respective rank as follows:

All Lieutenants = LSA/LCD

All Sergeants = SA/SDS

All Detectives = 1st Grade

The pension enhancement for all members is calculated in this manner regardless of the member’s current rank designation at time of retirement.
